What are the features of the Opel Insignia?

If you want to own a coupe-looking car in the D segment, I guess the Opel Insignia is the car for you. The Insignia is a vehicle that emerged when Opel wanted to withdraw the Vectra model from the market and introduce a car between the Vectra and Omega in its place. The Insignia was introduced in late 2008 and started selling in Turkey in 2009. Subsequently, the Insignia was facelifted in 2013, addressing its criticized aspects. When you look at the Insignia from the outside, the updated headlight cluster, enlarged front grille, and chrome details added to the lower part of the bumper contribute to making the Insignia look both younger and more modern. Moving to the rear, we see the taillights extending to the trunk lid and a chrome strip widening under the Opel emblem. All of these have made the already sporty-looking Insignia more stylish. When we move to the interior of the Insignia, the first thing that catches the eye is the change in the center console. While the center console was criticized for its button clutter before the facelift, Opel has found a solution to this clutter by placing a sufficiently large touchscreen here, adding a modern feel to this car. A digital display with good resolution has been placed instead of the analog speedometer. You can also use this display to access the trip computer and the music system. The material quality of the Insignia is sufficient for its segment. Opel later removed the touchpad placed on the center console from later production models because it was not very useful, in order to allow the touchscreen to be controlled more easily. While the personalized climate control for the driver and passenger in the Insignia is a nice feature, the poor sensitivity of the touch area used for this adversely affects its usability. There is no problem with the living space in the front and rear of the Insignia, but due to the car's design, the sloping roofline leaves the rear headroom behind its competitors in its segment. The insulation level of the Insignia, like all Opels, remains a bit insufficient. Although the Insignia may not meet the expectations of those seeking comfort, I don't think it will be too bothersome as it will translate into road holding for the drivers.

Technical Specifications

Opel offers the Insignia to the Turkish market in two different body styles, sedan and sports tourer, and with three different engine options. You can get the sedan Insignia with 1.6 turbo-charged gasoline, 1.6 CDTİ, and 2.0 CDTİ engine options. The 1.6 CDTİ engine and automatic transmission combination, which is the most preferred in our country, can be obtained with 136 PS and 320 NM of power in both body styles. Although the Insignia has a very heavy chassis, this engine-transmission duo is sufficient to meet the expectations of the Insignia. With this duo, your average fuel consumption is around 8.2 liters per 100 kilometers. The Insignia, which you can also get with a 1.6 CDTİ engine in manual transmission, gives you better results than the automatic. For those who prefer a gasoline engine, the 1.6-liter gasoline engine, capable of producing 170 PS of power and 260 NM of torque, is offered with an automatic transmission only in the sedan version. Although the combined test consumption according to factory data is 7 liters in this combination, it translates to around 10 to 10.5 liters for us. For those who want to use the Insignia more dynamically, there is the 2.0 CDTİ, 170 PS power, and 400 NM torque diesel automatic combination. The combined test consumption according to factory data with this duo is given as 5.6 liters. If you wish, you can also get the Insignia as a 4x4 in the 2.0 CDTİ cosmo AT package. The Insignia offers manual and automatic transmissions with 6 forward gears. Having 6 gears in manual is an important factor for fuel economy. However, when it comes to the automatic transmission, it would not be wrong to say that it is a bit behind the times due to its slow gear shifting speed. The Insignia takes excellent advantage of its stiff suspension in terms of road holding; even when you turn off the electronic systems, slips occur to a very small extent, and then the car recovers itself, which does not happen at all when the electronic systems are active. So, the Insignia holds a considerable place in its segment in terms of road holding. As for the trunk volume, I must say it falls behind its competitors. However, a 500-liter trunk will suffice for many users.

Insignia's Prices and Market Evaluation

Insignia prices vary between 102 thousand and 194 thousand TL. If you prefer a gasoline engine, you can own the 1.6 Edition Elegance AT package for 102,740 TL. While you can get the Insignia's 1.6 CDTİ cosmo package for 114,240 TL, you can also get the diesel automatic combination by paying an extra 6,000 TL. For a more powerful Insignia, you can get the 2.0 CDTİ cosmo AT package for 166,590 TL. You can reach the Insignia sports tourer body style for 1.6 CDTİ automatic at 135,110 TL and 2.0 CDTİ automatic at 193,960 TL. In the second-hand market, the Insignia has a wide price range. Prices vary between 50,000 TL and 150,000 TL. Compared to its competitors, I can say that the Insignia's prices are a bit more reasonable.

Overview

We can say the Opel is the sportiest in its segment. Although it lags behind its competitors in terms of living space, it manages to appeal to customers with the technology it uses, its stylish appearance, and its lower prices.
