Fish Types and the Foods They Eat
Fish, which add color to our homes and captivate us with their beautiful appearance and charming nature, have many types of food available. These foods provide various minerals and proteins to the fish, and they are also very beneficial for their development. Some fish species may prefer certain types of fish food over others. Therefore, it is very important to consider the fish species when purchasing food.
Types of Food
Flake Foods; As the name suggests, these are small foods that resemble fish scales. They are also known as leaf food. When added to the aquarium, they float on the surface, and the fish approach the surface to eat them. It is a type of food generally preferred by goldfish. Flake foods are also one of the most preferred types of
fish food for live-bearing fish.
Granule Foods; These are generally suitable for all types of fish. However, they are most suitable for fish that prefer to swim in the middle level of the aquarium water. Granule foods do not stay on the water surface like flake foods. However, it takes them quite some time to reach the bottom of the water. Therefore, they are consumed by the fish before reaching the bottom.
Pond and Stick Foods; These foods are generally longer and heavier than other foods, except for tablet foods. They are usually preferred for large aquarium fish. They greatly contribute to the fish's development.Chip Foods; These are a type of food similar to flake foods. However, they do not always remain fixed on the water surface. After a while, they slowly start to sink towards the bottom of the water. These foods are quite suitable for almost all fish.
Dried Foods are very nutritious foods for fish. These foods contain dried live organisms, supplemented with nutrients, that fish enjoy eating. Foods such as mosquitoes, worms, houseflies, daphnia, shrimp, krill, and bloodworms can be found in these foods. However, there are also mixed products for these fish foods.
Tablet Foods; These are the largest and coarsest of the foods given to fish. These foods are generally very suitable for fish that live at the bottom of the aquarium. When added to the aquarium, they immediately reach the bottom. Tablet foods are the most ideal fish food for plecos and corydoras that are kept in aquariums.
